Artist Statement

My work deals with the formal issues of abstraction; color, surface, mark making and process and pays homage to the basic tenet of modernism that pairs down the visual equation to only the most vital elements. I think of a painting as an object that mimics an artifact or fossil from the natural world; with a random yet inherent perfection of composition and color. The work is guided by personal color poetries and memories such as sun melting snow on steel, the sea in winter and the many possibilities of red.
